Nationalism and Imperialism played an important role in the outbreak of the First World War. Yes, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was the immediate reason for the war to take place but the ground has been set by these other factors. Nationalism is often referred to patriotism but in a more intense form. This love for one’s country often exaggerates their importance thus, keeping their interests above other countries.
